Police in California said they arrested a man Saturday who is accused of decapitating his female relative and then fleeing the law with her head in his possession.
Santa Rosa police said Luis Gustavo Aroyo-Lopez, 24, was arrested Saturday morning at the Transbay Transit Center in San Francisco.
Authorities said they have not located the head of the victim, who hasn’t been identified but was said to be in her 60s.
Police haven’t clarified how Mr. Aroyo-Lopez and the woman were related, but neighbors told the Santa Rosa Press Democrat that the woman was Mr. Aroyo-Lopez’s grandmother.
Santa Rosa police first learned of the homicide when responding to a call at about 3:40 p.m. Thursday on the 2500 block of Pomo Trail.
Responding officers arrived to find the headless body inside the home.
“It is believed Aroyo-Lopez took the victim’s head with him when he left the residence and he may still be in possession of it,” police wrote in a press release.
Santa Rosa PD said Mr. Arroyo-Lopez was let out of state prison on Nov. 1 after serving time for assault with a deadly weapon and weapons possession charges.
