Las Vegas Teens Accused of Killing Cyclist Mock Victim’s Family in Court

The family of a Las Vegas cyclist killed in a hit-and-run crash said the two teenage suspects laughed among themselves and flipped off the victim’s relatives during a court appearance last week.

Crystal and Taylor Probst, the wife and the daughter of cyclist Andreas Probst, said they saw Jesus Ayala and Jzamir Keys snickering to each other and making vulgar gestures toward them before Tuesday’s hearing.

“How can you sit there after taking a man’s life and act like such an entitled p——?” Taylor Probst told the Las Vegas Review-Journal after the hearing.

Crystal Probst told the newspaper that Mr. Ayala’s pointing his middle finger in her direction “just makes him look bad.”

Mr. Ayala, 18, and Mr. Keys, 16, face murder charges as adults for the crash that killed Probst, a retired California police chief.

Both pleaded not guilty. Their trial was set for September.

Police said the suspects were in the midst of a crime spree when they recorded themselves intentionally striking and killing Probst in August.

One of the teens can be heard saying, “Ready?” The other egged on the crash, saying “Hit his a—.”

The driver sped behind Probst and slammed into the cyclist, causing him to roll over the top of the car and land on the pavement.

Authorities said Probst was thrown about 96 feet from his bicycle.

The video shows Probst lying lifeless on the ground as the two drive away. One of them says, “He’s knocked out,” and the other replies, “Oh s—-, we gotta get out of here.”

A police recording from Mr. Ayala’s arrest showed the suspect saying that he’d be out of jail in a month.

When an officer told the suspect he could be charged as an adult due to the grave injuries suffered by Probst, the then-juvenile replied “It’s just ah, f———, ah, hit-and-run. Slap on the wrist.”
