Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport Bathrooms Win Best Restroom Contest

Recently renovated restrooms at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport have received national acclaim, winning the 2023 America’s Best Restroom contest.

The contest is held each year by cleaning supplies and services company Cintas. As the winner, BWI receives $2,500 in Cintas bathroom cleaning products and services, plus a Cintas “UltraClean” restroom cleaning service, the company wrote in a release Thursday.

Cintas pointed out the LED occupancy lights, janitorial inventory tracking, separate changing and lactation rooms as reasons BWI won this year’s contest, along with the spaciousness of the restrooms.

“The BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport restrooms are bright and airy and the embodiment of clean, with natural light and room for luggage,” Cintas Marketing Manager Julia Walsh said in a statement.

The first of BWI’s new bathrooms, for both men and women, opened in April across from gates B2 and B4.

The renovations are being done in BWI’s B, C and D concourses, with the work projected to cost around $55 million.

Currently, there are also updated men’s and women’s lavatories next to gates C2 and C9, and a renovated women’s restroom near gates D23 through D25, the airport wrote on a webpage covering the renovations.

BWI is not the first airport to take home the prize, with Tampa International Airport winning in 2022.
