Chinese citizens sent $260,000 in bank wires to Hunter Biden in 2019 and listed President Biden’s home as the address, House Republicans revealed Tuesday, calling it more refutation of the president’s repeated claims of having nothing to do with his son’s business dealings.
House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer said he obtained the wires as part of a subpoena for records related to the younger Mr. Biden’s dealings.
Mr. Comer said Wang Xin sent a $10,000 wire on July 26, 2019. A week later, on Aug. 2, Jonathan Li, CEO of investment firm BHR Partners, sent a $250,000 wire to Hunter Biden that listed his father’s address in Wilmington, Delaware.
Mr. Comer said the elder Mr. Biden, who already was running for president at the time of the wire, had “developed a familiar relationship” with Mr. Li by then.
“Bank records don’t lie but President Joe Biden does. In 2020, Joe Biden told Americans that his family never received money from China,” Mr. Comer said. “We’ve already proved that to be a lie earlier this year, and now we know that two wires originating from Beijing listed Joe Biden’s Wilmington home as the beneficiary address when he was running for President of the United States.”
The Kentucky Republican said he will probe what “the Bidens” did with the money from Beijing.
To send a money wire requires listing the recipient’s full name and physical address in addition to bank routing and account numbers.
Mr. Biden, during a presidential debate in the 2020 campaign, vehemently denied that his son had “made money” from dealings with China.
Devon Archer, a former business partner of Hunter Biden, testified to Mr. Comer’s committee in July that the elder Mr. Biden had coffee with Mr. Li in Beijing when he was vice president, and would write a recommendation letter for Mr. Li’s daughter to attend Georgetown University.
But Mr. Archer also said he never witnessed Hunter Biden ask his father to help out Mr. Li or BHR beyond the recommendation. Mr. Archer also pointed out that the daughter “didn’t get in.”
