White House Urges Media to Examine House Republicans’ Impeachment Efforts

The White House is urging media outlets to be more skeptical of the House GOP impeachment inquiry into President Biden. In a memo written by Ian Sams, a spokesman for investigations at the White House, he pointed out Republicans who are skeptical of the effort. The memo was addressed to the leadership of news organizations, a day after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy directed Republican-led committees to open the inquiry.

The memo includes quotes from Republicans who say they haven’t seen evidence of corruption or wrongdoing in foreign business deals involving Hunter Biden, the son of President Biden. Mr. Sams wrote in the memo, “It’s time for the media to ramp up its scrutiny of House Republicans for opening an impeachment inquiry based on lies.”

Mr. McCarthy cited evidence uncovered by the House Oversight and Accountability Committee that allegedly showed millions of dollars flowing into Biden family bank accounts. He claimed that then-Vice President Biden served as the “brand” for Hunter Biden and his associates to secure lucrative deals with China, Ukraine, Russia, and other countries.

Mr. McCarthy said, “House Republicans have uncovered serious and credible allegations into President Biden’s conduct. Taken together, these allegations paint a picture of a culture of corruption.” He called for a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.

The White House memo also highlighted the fact that Mr. McCarthy insisted on a House vote to open an inquiry into President Donald Trump but skipped holding a vote on his own inquiry for President Biden. Mr. Sams argues that this is a sign that Republicans are moving forward based on flimsy evidence.

The memo concludes by stating that covering impeachment as a process story without delving into the legitimacy of the claims made by House Republicans is a disservice to the American public. The memo was sent to executives at various news organizations, including CNN, Fox News, The New York Times, The Associated Press, and CBS News.
