Fans of singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett have posthumously rocketed his 1985 greatest hits album, “Songs You Know By Heart,” back up the Billboard charts.
Buffett, who died on Sept. 1 from skin cancer, was 76.
The album includes songs such as “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes,” “Volcano,” “Come Monday,” and his only Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 hit, “Margaritaville,” which peaked on that chart at No. 8 for the week of July 23, 1977.
On Billboard’s chart for pure album sales, “Songs You Know By Heart” hit No. 1 for the week ending Saturday, having previously spent 19 weeks on the chart back when it was first released.
On the Billboard 200 chart, which includes both album sales and streaming-based metrics, “Songs You Know By Heart” hit an all-time high position at No. 4 for the week ending Saturday, having previously spent 35 weeks on the chart and peaking at No. 100 back when it was first released. The posthumous interest makes the album Buffett’s 13th to hit the top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Billboard estimates that “Songs You Know By Heart” has had 8.14 million pure album sales throughout the lifetime of the album.
